Skid
Charles Bierk, 22 (Toronto)
Since I can remember I have been attracted by the possibilities presented by paint. Dealing with the anxiety of loss, memory and desire my paintings serve to act as monolithic memorials or testaments to those dearest to me; be it family or friends.Painting on the shipping skid is an idea I have played with for quite some time. Incorporating the found object is of great importance to me as a means of revitalizing a once mundane object. Like the subjects I paint, the shipping skid is rough, filled with imperfections and poses many challenges to the application of paint. The emptyness of the skid is what attracts me to it and acts as a means of communication between the medium and the subject.
